Operated by 4th Ashby de la Zouch Scouts. Serving Ashby de la Zouch, Packington, Shellbrook & Smisby.

The post operated from the Town Hall, Ashby on three consecutive Saturdays each year, the date shown is that of the first one. A leaflet drop to approximately 4,600 households was made on the first Saturday each year from 1987 onwards. Most covers in later years were not cancelled in any way.

1982 (27th November) - 1983

1982 issue

Type C1/P1, used as a stand-alone cachet in 1982 & 1983, subsequently used as a cancellation each year up to and including 1987.



1984 (8th December) - 1986

1984/6 issue

Type 1, 25x25mm, blue, designed by the Executive. Printed by Saxby Press, Leicester on square-cut self-adhesive sheets of paper on an imperforate yellow backing sheet. Single cut stamps will have backing paper of exactly the same size. Re-used 1985/6.



1987 (5th December)

1987 issue

Type 2, 25x25mm, slightly lighter blue, designed by the Executive. Printed by Saxby Press, Leicester on square-cut self-adhesive labels in coils on an imperforate translucent backing strip. Single cut stamps of this and all subsequent issues will normally have backing paper that extends beyond the stamp on all sides.



1988 (3rd December)

1988 issue

Type 3, 25x25mm, designed by the Executive. Printed by Saxby Press, Leicester on self-adhesive labels in coils, note the rounding of the corners. A souvenir postcard was issued in 1985, labelled "first day cover" but without an exact date of issue.



1989 (2nd December)

1989 issue

Type 4, 25x25mm, designed by the Executive. Printed by Saxby Press, Leicester on self-adhesive labels in coils, design as 1988 but note the sharper rounding of the corners. This issue was re-used for several years (probably up until 1995) until stocks ran out.

Type 5, 25x25mm, designed by the Executive. Printed by Saxby Press, Leicester on self-adhesive labels in coils, design as 1989 but printed in green on blue paper.



1994 (3rd December) - 1998

Type 6, 25x25mm, designed by the Executive. Printed by Saxby Press, Leicester on self-adhesive labels in coils, design as 1989 but printed in black on brighter blue paper.

Type S1, 63x38mm, only 105 copies of these were printed and all were applied to "thanks" Christmas cards from the Post Committee addressed to people who had made a significant contribution to the operation of the Post over the years. Covers uncancelled. Designed & produced by Marie Ecclestone, the Group Secretary on sheets of 21 self-adhesive labels.



2001

2001 issue

Type S2, 63x38mm, only 105 copies of type S2 were printed and most were applied to "thanks" Christmas cards from the Post Committee addressed to people who had made a contribution to the operation of the Post in 2001. Covers uncancelled. Designed & produced by Marie Ecclestone, the Group Secretary on sheets of 21 self-adhesive labels.



2002

2002 issue

Type S3, 63x38mm, only 126 copies of type S3 were printed and most were applied to "thanks" Christmas cards from the Post Committee addressed to people who had made a contribution to the operation of the Post in 2002. Covers uncancelled. Designed & produced by Marie Ecclestone, the Group Secretary on sheets of 21 self-adhesive labels. The logo on the cabin door is from the 20th World Scouts Jamboree in Thailand 2002/3, attended by four group members.

2004 issue

Type S5, 38x21mm, Most were applied to "thanks" Christmas cards from the Post Committee addressed to people who had made a contribution to the operation of the Post in 2004. Covers uncancelled.



Cancellations

Type C1/P1, used as a cachet in 1982/3, and as a cancellation in 1984/7.


used 1987 onwards

Type P2, introduced in 1987 when the group was no longer sponsored by the Baptists. Used from then on, although many later covers were not cancelled at all.
