Blackwater (Combined issues)

From 1990 the separate postal services operated by 1st Blackwater (Land) Scouts & 1st Blackweater (Sea) Scouts were combined into one. Part of the East Essex Consortium. Serving Goldhanger, Little Totham, Tollesbury, Tolleshunt d'Arcy & Tolleshunt Major. Extended to Great Wigborough, Little Wigborough & Salcott-cum-Virley from 1992.

Blackwater is a Group within the District of East Essex in the Scout County of Essex.

1990 (1st December)

Types 1 and 2, 50mmx38mm, locally printed by letterpress on self-adhesive labels, two stamps side by side on each label, hence rounded corners at the left or right, not both and imperforate between pairs. Sheets of labels were manually cut into pairs before printing, the stamps were then printed tete-beche as per the illustration below. A better (coloured) scan of type 2, both as a single and as a block of four, is still being sought.

Type 3, 50mmx38mm, locally printed (in blue) by letterpress on self-adhesive labels, two stamps side by side on each label, hence rounded corners at the left or right, not both and imperforate between pairs. Sheets of labels were manually cut into pairs before printing, the stamps were then printed tete-beche as per the 1990 illustration above. A better (coloured) scan of type 3, both as a single and as a block of four, is still being sought.



1992 (5th December)

1993 (28th November)

Type 5, 50mmx38mm, locally printed (in red) by letterpress on self-adhesive labels, two stamps side by side on each label, hence rounded corners at the left or right, not both and imperforate between pairs. Sheets of labels were manually cut into pairs before printing, the stamps were then printed tete-beche as per the 1990 illustration above. A better (coloured) scan of type 5, both as a single and as a block of four, is still being sought.



1994 (25th November) - 1995

Type 6, 25mmx38mm, printed by ? in offset litho onto self-adhesive labels in sheets of 36, (6 rows of 6, imperforate between). A souvenir cover (inscribed first day cover although it was the second year) on a specially produced envelope was issued in 1995, dated 1 Dec 1995, the first day of that year's service.

1997 -= 2000

Type 8, 25mmx38mm, printed by ? in offset litho onto self-adhesive labels in sheets of 36, (6 rows of 6, imperforate between). Sold at 10p each. Sponsored by Five Lakes Hotel, Golf & Country Club.



2001

p>Type 9, 25mmx38mm, printed by ? in offset litho onto self-adhesive labels in sheets of 36, (6 rows of 6, imperforate between) hand-overprinted with violet discs to obliterate the price tablets. Sold at 12p each.



25th November 2002 - 2006

Blackwater 2002

Type 10, 25mmx50mm, designed by E. Ford from suggestions by scout members & printed by Sobar Ltd in rolls of 3000 self-adhesive labels, cut into strips of 10 for sale. Sold at 12p each. A First day cover was issued on a specially produced envelope.
