Barlborough and Spinkhill

Also known as "Warsop - Nottinghamshire" Operated from 1984 onwards by 11 troops (increased to 13 in 1990, reduced to 10 in 1994) covering a 20 square mile area lying between Chesterfield, Mansfield & Worksop which included Langwit, Shirebrook, Cuckney, Creswell, Elmton, Whitwell, Bolsover, Warsop, Clowne, Edwinstowe, Welbeck, Eckington, Duckmanton & M/Woodhouse. In latter years exchanged cards with Chesterfield & Sheffield. 1p per stamp to charity, 4p to central funds (1990 onwards 5p) and the rest to the participating troops. No FDCs. Did not operate in 2000.

Barlborough and Spinkhill, Bolsover, Shirebrook & Whitwell groups are part of the East Scarsdale District in the Scout County of Derbyshire. Whaley Thorns, Langwith is part of the High Peak District in the Scout County of Derbyshire. Clipstone, Edwinstone & Warsop groups are part of the Mansfield District in the Scout County of Nottinghamshire. It is known that more than these eight groups have been involved but these are the only ones from which identifiable cancelled covers have been obtained to illustrate this catalogue.

1984 (December 1st)

Type 1, designed and printed by Dawn Graphics, Bolsover on gummed paper, line rouletted about 10, sheet borders imperforate, lower margin slightly wider giving somewhat larger stamp, sheets of 42 (40 stamps plus two blank labels arranged as 7 rows of 6 with labels 5th & 6th in top row).



1985 (December 1st) - 1987)

Types 2 to 4, designed by Dawn Graphics(2) the organisers daughter(3) & son(4) respectively. Printed by Warwick Press, Chesterfield on gummed paper, pin perforated about 11. The two red designs printed together in sheets of 42 (7 rows of 6 with 20 of each design plus two blank labels located in 3rd & 4th positions of top row of 6). This layout produced 6 se-tenant pairs per sheet. Left hand three columns type 2, right hand three type 3. Black design printed as 1984 issue in sheets of of 42 (40 stamps plus two blank labels arranged 7x6 with labels 5th & 6th in top row of 6). Type 4 shows considerable variation in the ‘v’ & inverted ‘V’ shapes in the middle of the design. It appears that the original from which the stamps were printed was very faint and an attempt was made manually to strengthen this area. This led to a situation where virtually every stamp on the sheet was unique.

Types 5 to 7, designers as before, printed by Warwick Press, Chesterfield on gummed paper, line rouletted about 5.



1990 (December 1st) - 1993

Types 8 to 9, designers as before, printed by Warwick Press, Chesterfield on gummed paper, line rouletted about 10, the two designs printed together in sheets of 42 (7x6 with 20 of each design plus two blank labels located in 3rd & 4th positions of top row of 6). This layout produced 6 se-tenant pairs per sheet. Left hand three columns type 8, right hand three type 9.



1994 (November 26th) - 1995

Type 10, designed and printed on a computer by Mr. A. Anderson, Hon. Treasurer of the Post in sheets of 40 (8 rows of 5), imperforate edges, upper margin quite wide, line rouletted about 10, vertical roulette much more noticeable as it showa a distinct black border to each rouletted hole.

Type 11, designed and printed on a computer by Mr. A. Anderson, Hon. Treasurer of the Post in sheets of 40 (8 rows of 5), imperforate edges, line rouletted a mixture of 5 and 10 either of which may appear vertically or horizontally.

Type 12, as 1994 design, designed and printed on a computer by Mr. A. Anderson, Hon. Treasurer of the Post in sheets of 40 (8 rows of 5), imperforate edges, upper & right hand margins quite wide, line rouletted about 10, vertical roulette does not have the black edging to each perforation.
