8/12/2004 - Scouts prepared to deliver post |
NOT convinced that your Christmas post will be delivered on time?
Never fear, a group of Reading Scouts are coming to the rescue. The 89th Reading Scout Group is all set to collect and deliver Christmas cards.
Cub leader John Potter said: “This is the 22nd year that the Scout group has been posting cards and this year will be our most important yet. “The Scout premises are in a very bad way, the roof is leaking and the building is deteriorating at such a rate that we anticipate a move quite soon. “We need to raise around £100,000 for a new building.”
Last year the group delivered around 5,000 cards, a figure they hope to double this year to raise more money. Around 50 families will be involved with the delivery of the cards. The Scouts are charging 15p per card and will be collecting from special post boxes until Friday, December 17. There are post boxes throughout Caversham in Waves the Hairdressers, Balfours, Martins, Caversham Library, Suprema Dry Cleaners, Whitings Butchers in Coldicut Street, La Belle in Farnham Drive and Balmore Park and Emmer Green Surgeries. Children will also be able to use post boxes in their local school.
Deliveries will be made to Caversham Park Village, Caversham Heights and Emmer Green on Saturday and Sunday, December 11, 12, 18 and 19.
