CHRISTMAS POST REVIEW
We have just had another very successful Christmas Post with lots of families helping to deliver items and some very hard work by the Scouts themselves. Stamps were on sale in a variety of locations in Fenstanton, Hilton, Fen Drayton and Papworth Everard prior to the Christmas Post Stall at Fenstanton Clock Tower on Saturday 13th December 2003. Post already accumulated was sorted and the first round of deliveries was then by the Soaut Troop around Fenstanton. They did this by foot and by bike despite the very wet weather! Bacon butties and hot drinks helped to keep the stall holders warm and the Scouts refuelled, as well as raising money along with the cake stall. Sales of stamps to villagers were also very good.
That afternoon Poppy Gowler (this year's organiser for the Group) and myself took the post for other villages to Copley, and collected that for our own Group's villages. This exercise was repeated again on the following Saturday. After each ”swap” we were then able to distribute packs to our volunteers to deliver. 12 families in Fenstanton and a co-ordinator m each of the other villages (to either deliver themselves or to get other families there involved if needed).
Whilst rt is not our largest fund raiser it raises the profile of Scouting in a positive light and gives the Scouts themselves a chance involved to join in with Group fundraising. The Scouts also earn "Community Service hours" for their Community Challenge Award.
We would like to thank all the families who helped with the event, at what was a busy time of year for us all.
