Operated by 1st Terling (Lord Rayleigh's Own) Scouts (1983-1990) & later by the Cubs (1999). Serving Terling & Fairstead. In the earlier years the two tier rates were for "own area" or "rest of East Essex district's area". Out of own area cards passed to other Scout groups for delivery.

Types 1 and 2, 30x30mm or 60x30mm respectively, designed by Craig Watson, printed by Barham & Moore, Chelmsford in sheets of 14 (2 rows of 7 - 5@5p, 2@10p), line rouletted about 5.



1985 (1st December) up to 1990

Types 3 and 4, 30x30mm, designed by Matthew Tugwell (Scout PL), printed by East Essex District in double pane sheets of 24 each (6rows of 4) -left hand sheet 5p, right hand sheet 10p - separated before distribution. Initially issued imperforate, later line rouletted 7. Imperf edges give several possible perforation variations. First day covers with both stamps, cancelled "07 DEC 1985" in faint violet ink, were produced on plain brown envelopes.



1991


Very limited outward service from Terling only - using East Essex stamps. Inward deliveries made by the District team.

1992


No outward service, inward deliveries handled by a 3rd Witham Scout & a District Scouter.

1994 to 1998


Service from Terling & Fairstead re-established, using East Essex stamps.

1999

Types 5 and 6, 65x40mm, designed by ?, printed by ? on sheets of 21 self-adhesive labels (7 rows of 3). A first day cover bearing one of these stamps was produced on specially designed envelopes. These stamps were also re-used in 2000 along with the new issue and a first day of service cover with both stamps was produced on specially designed envelopes in 2000.

Types 7 to 11, 38x21mm, designed by ?, printed by ? giving 62 stamps on sheets of 65 self-adhesive labels (12 rows of 5 with the 13th row blank). First day covers with all five stamps were produced on specially designed envelopes.

Types 12 to 15, 38x21mm, designed by Mr. & Mrs. Duncan Wood, printed by them on sheets of 65 self-adhesive labels (13 rows of 5). First day covers with all four stamps were produced on specially designed envelopes.

Owing to the inability of an ink-jet printer to print too close to the edge of the paper all four designs have been slightly truncated on the left-hand side of the left-hand column of stamps. Also with type 13 only, the right-hand side of the right-hand column of stamps is similarly truncated, thus losing part of the curve of the "p" in the value. The value on type 13 is placed slightly differently on each stamp in the row.
