As an economy measure, instead of purchasing new cancellers each year, the post continued to use the above cancellers with their date slugs removed.

Examples exist with partial dates (eg 199) or completely missing dates but these are not believed to come from genuine postal usage but are more likely to be test prints. I have quite a range of examples on small sheets of paper rather than on envelopes.
