The Posts listed here are reported, known, or possibly just believed, to have operated at some time since 1981. Often only in a small way, for only one or two years and only minimal details are known of their activities.
Even with modern Website and Email facilities it is surprisingly difficult to contact post organisers and even more difficult to persuade them to answer. It would be a shame if the efforts of some Scout & Guide units went unrecorded and unappreciated just because leaders haven't got the time to reply to an email - after all it costs almost nothing but a few minutes of their time.
Any information, whether details of the Post itself or just a contact name in the right area would be appreciated - please email me on johncrabbe@yahoo.com - I would be delighted to hear from you. I would also like to buy copies of any philatelic materials produced by these Posts so that I can complete the relevant sections of the catalogue.

Brian Findlay, chairman, Arbroath and District Scout Fellowship, told the Herald: "This is a major fund-raiser for the Scouts and last year was another record year for the number of cards delivered. I would hope that this year we can again count of the support of the people of Arbroath for this very worthwhile service." |

SCOUT POST GEARS UP FOR BUSY FESTIVE SEASON THE SCOUT Post is as simple a concept now as it was when it inaugurated in 1986 by the Venture Scouts. The idea was to provide the local community with a Christmas card delivery service that was cheap to use while raising essential funds for the local Scout group. It is just as important today as the Carnoustie Scout group enters its centenary year in 2009. The cost is 15p per card and post boxes will be out from Saturday, November 29, until 4 p.m. on Friday, December 19, with deliveries taking place at the weekends. To use this service, simply go to your nearest Scout Post box and pop in your cards and money, then the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers will do the rest! Please remember that this is for local cards only (Carnoustie and Barry) and make sure all cards have a street name and number. Scout Post boxes are at the Co-op, the Public Library, Visions, The Granary, Floor Studio, Sue Ryder Care, Burrells Pharmacy (Barry Road and Dundee street), Premier Supersaver, Harbour Gallery and Ravensby Newsagents. |

8/12/2004 - Scouts prepared to deliver post NOT convinced that your Christmas post will be delivered on time? Never fear, a group of Reading Scouts are coming to the rescue. The 89th Reading Scout Group is all set to collect and deliver Christmas cards. Cub leader John Potter said: “This is the 22nd year that the Scout group has been posting cards and this year will be our most important yet. “The Scout premises are in a very bad way, the roof is leaking and the building is deteriorating at such a rate that we anticipate a move quite soon. “We need to raise around £100,000 for a new building.” Last year the group delivered around 5,000 cards, a figure they hope to double this year to raise more money. Around 50 families will be involved with the delivery of the cards. The Scouts are charging 15p per card and will be collecting from special post boxes until Friday, December 17. There are post boxes throughout Caversham in Waves the Hairdressers, Balfours, Martins, Caversham Library, Suprema Dry Cleaners, Whitings Butchers in Coldicut Street, La Belle in Farnham Drive and Balmore Park and Emmer Green Surgeries. Children will also be able to use post boxes in their local school. Deliveries will be made to Caversham Park Village, Caversham Heights and Emmer Green on Saturday and Sunday, December 11, 12, 18 and 19. |

Gourock/Greenock - Strathclyde

Christmas Post This year the organization of the Christmas Post falls to the Group as the Venture Unit, who have run the service for many years, no longer exists due to the changes in the Sections. The service is a good fundraiser for the Group and we hope to continue operating it in future years. This however depends on the level of assistance that we receive from members and parents. The service is operated jointly with 2nd Gourock Boys Brigade allowing us to offer coverage of the West End of Greenock and all of Gourock. Our group delivers all mail in the West End of Greenock Area. The service is being offered through selected shops and churches from 7th to 21st December but to minimise effort we have decided to sort and deliver all the mail in on operation. We shall need as many helpers as can possibly manage - please try to set aside one of the delivery times to suit you - we shall have sheets availble at the Coffee Morning on Saturday for parents and boys to sign up for assisting. The more that can help the less we all need to do! It is particularly important that we have as many adult helpers as possible as no Cub Scout or Scouts will be undertaking deliveries without being supervised by an adult. Also Cub Scouts may only take part in daylight delivering so the Sunday evening is restricted to PLs/APLs and Explorer Scouts plus any adults who are available. We look forward to your support in this venture - any questions please get in touch. |

Christmas Post THE Hawick Scout Group is gearing up for its popular Christmas post service, which is now only one month away. And as its main annual fund-raising event and source of funding – with the group also still searching and saving for a permanent scout hall – the support of the Hawick public for the postal service is vital. Scout Group spokesperson Nan Lyle told the Hawick News: "The Scout post finances the general running of the group, which includes leader training, Beaver, Cub and Scout activities, and the development of the new Explorer Section, as well as the rapid expansion of the Fellowship Pipe Band." It is now more than eight years since the group left its former premises in Commercial Road, during which time it has continued to search for a new permanent base. But although so far unsuccessful, the wait has allowed the group to build up its finances for when the opportunity arises. Mrs Lyle explained: "During these years we have painstakingly been on the lookout for our own premises so that young people in the group may benefit from a permanent scout hall. But we have not wasted that time, and just like the Scout motto, we are prepared." Further highlighting the importance of the Christmas postal service, she added: "It is hoped that once again the people of Hawick will kindly give their loyal support to the Scout Christmas Post." Christmas cards, along with payment of 15p each, should be taken to the Congregational Church hall in Bourtree Place on Friday, November 28, between 9am and 6pm, and on Saturday, November 29, from 9am until noon. |

Scouts Xmas post a success This year's 'Scouts Christmas Post' was a great success. Over 400 Christmas cards were collected and delivered around the village, and although it was a free service, donations totalled £45.16. This went towards a Christmas treat - a trip to Hull Ice Arena and a McDonalds afterwards. Thanks go out to Leven Library, Charters Butchers and the Surgery, for allowing the collection boxes on their premises. A big thank you also goes out to 'the lady who knows every address in Leven' (some envelopes were incorrectly addressed but were still delivered correctly) |

Scout Post is back for this year's festive season POSTING local Christmas cards this year will once again be made easier for everyone in Longridge - the Scout Post is back! Leader of 1st Longridge Scouts, Pam Hooghkirk, and her team have decided to carry out this popular festive service after an absence of two years. As well as helping to spread Christmas wishes, the Scout Post is also an effective way of raising funds as, with each card posted, the sender is asked to put a minimum of 10p in the box. "Hopefully, people will think to put in just a bit more than the traditional 10p this time - we are planning to go to Canada in July 2008 and, of course, we need group funds for the upkeep of the Scout Hut and other expenses," explained Pam. The Scout Post boxes are now in place at Somerfields, the Co-op, Spar in Berry Lane and Spar at Mardale Road and will remain there until the service closes on December 14. |

I am writing to ask if you will kindly publish in your paper a thank you to all the people of Stratford who have supported our Christmas Post service. I would like to thank all those people who actually posted their Christmas cards with us (including the Mayor of Stratford), and the many keepers and offices who allowed us to place our post boxes on their premises. Also a big thank you to all those leaders, helpers, parents and children involved with 1st Shottery Scout Group who gave up their valuable time in the lead-up to Christmas to empty and collect post boxes, sort the many cards and finally deliver them. This year we will, by Christmas Eve, have delivered over 3,500 cards which has resulted in income to the group of just over £600. Scouts Christmas Post The Scout Group’s Christmas Post Service began in 1986. Since then over 375,00 cards have been delivered to the citizens of Whitburn, East Whitburn and Redmill. The money raised through the Post ensures the functioning of the Group from one year to next. It also enables us to ensure Scouting is available to everyone without placing a financial burden on families as the money is used to pay all our membership fees to the Scout Association, allows us to provide free camps and outings for our young people and to pay for transport to many events. For the price of 15p per card, members of the public can send cards to Whitburn, East Whitburn and Redmill. The price rise from 10p to 15p in 2004 is the first increase since 1990! |

Scout post service thanks From the Yeovil Express, first published Wednesday 27th Dec 2006. THE Holy Trinity and Great Lyde Scout Groups in Yeovil would like to thank everyone for their wonderful support of their main fundraiser of the year - the Scout Christmas postal service. More than 34,000 cards were delivered locally over the festive season and the money collected from this will be used to provide essential equipment for the groups. A group spokesman said: "We look forward to another successful Christmas postal service with the 2007 collection. "Thanks are also offered to all the post box holders and families and leaders from both groups who help to make this so very successful." |
