Operated by 1st Cuffley Scouts. The dates given are those on the first day covers, as applied by the British Post Office with reference to their own stamp issue. It is probable that the Cuffley local service started somewhat later in November. From 1985 onwards a three-digit number was applied to the back of FDCs. Closed after 2007 due to lack of older members for deliveries.

Cuffley is a Group within the "Potters Bar and District" District in the Scout County of Hertfordshire.

1982 (November 27th)

1982 issue

Type 1, 57x32mm, designed by K. H. Stroud (Group Leader) and printed locally in rolls of 2,000 on self-adhesive labels on imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark.



1983 (November 16th)

1983 issue

Type 2, 57x32mm, designed by J. B. Parkes (Organiser) and  printed by Celfix Labels (Carmarthen) on self-adhesive labels on imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. The design illustrates the Schutte Lanz Airship which crashed at Cuffley on 3rd September 1916, having been shot down by Captain Leefe Robinson, whose memorial can be seen on the East Ridgeway, Cuffley.



1984 (November 20th)

1984 issue

Type 3, 50x25mm, designed by Ms. Carolyn Parkes and printed by A G P Services (Ware) on self-adhesive labels on imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. This depicts the Sopers Farm Viaduct which is 390 feet long and 65 feet high, situated just south of Cuffley village. Completed in 1909, trains startef running to Cuffley on 4th April 1910.



1985 (November 19th)

1985 issue

Type 4, 34x51mm, designed by Ms. Carolyn Parkes and printed by C & D Associates (Cuffley) on self-adhesive labels on imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. This design depicts the Cuffley Village Pump which is 100 years old this year, having been first used in 1885. It is situated at the top of Plough Hill and is installed over a 6000 gallon tank. It is not known when the pump was last used.



1986 (November 18th)

1986 issue

Type 5, 38mm diameter, designed by E. Curnow and printed by C & D Associates (Cuffley) on self-adhesive labels in sheets of 12 on imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. This design is based on the badge issued by the Scout Association to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Wplf Cubs, now known as Cub Scouts. Badge designed by Eric Curnow and a team at Scout HQ.



1987 (November 17th)

1987 issue

Type 6, 50x39mm, designed by Ms. Carolyn Parkes and M. Clark and printed by C & D Associates (Cuffley) on self-adhesive labels on imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. This depicts The Plough, situated at the top of Plough Hill. Originally built as a cottage in 1836, licensed as a beerhouse in 1842, rebuilt in 1923 in the style shown.



1988 (November 15th)

1988 issue

Type 7, 50x39mm, designed by Ms. Carolyn Parkes and printed by C & D Associates (Cuffley) on self-adhesive labels on imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. This design depicts Cuffley Primary School, opened in August 1938 at a cost of £15,000 to accommodate 288 pupils.

Type 8, 50x39mm, designed by Ms. Carolyn Parkes and printed by C & D Associates (Cuffley) on self-adhesive labels in sheets of 16 on imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. This design shows the 1st Cuffley Scout Group HQ which is 25 years old, having been opened on 11th April 1964 by the then County Commissioner Melville Balsillie.

Type 9, 50x39mm, designed by Mrs. Carolyn Clark (née Parkes) and printed by C & D Associates (Cuffley) on self-adhesive labels in sheets of 16 on imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. This design depicts St. Andrew's Church, celebrating the 25th anniversary of it's consecration on 30th November 1965 (St. Andrew's Day). This building was erected on the site of the old National School and 1st Cuffley Scouts Hut, which was demolished in the Church building scheme. The original St. Andrew's stood at the top of Plough Hill and was built in 1910.

Type 10, 39x50mm, designed by Mrs. Carolyn Clark and printed by C & D Associates (Cuffley) on self-adhesive labels in sheets of 16 on imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. This design celebrates the 60th anniversary of the First Cuffley Scout Group. Although meetings commenced in 1927, the Group was not officially registered with I.H.Q. until 1931.



1992 (November 10th)

Type 11, 50x39mm, designed by Mrs. Carolyn Clark and printed by C & D Associates (Cuffley) on self-adhesive labels in sheets of 16 on imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. This stamp celebrates the 50th anniversary of the founding of Cuffley Free Church on the 20th June 1942. The present building on which this design is based was opened on 28th January 1967 and the original church was converted into the church hall.



1993 (November 9th)

Type 12, 50x39mm, designed by Mrs. Carolyn Clark and printed by C & D Associates (Cuffley) on self-adhesive labels in sheets of 16 on imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. The Cuffley Players began life in 1933 and have continued for 60 years to produce plays of all types for the entertainment of their audiences, most of whom live in Cuffley.



1994 (November 1st)

Type 13, 50x39mm, designed by J. B. Parkes and printed by C & D Associates (Cuffley) on self-adhesive labels in sheets of 16 on imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. It is 100 years since Parish Councils were established as statutory bodies with elected members to administer areas covering one or more villages. In 1894 Nothaw Parish Council was given added responsibilities which included the water supply, waste dosposal, fire risk and maintenance of roadways. In 1982 it was decided to add Cuffley to the Parish title as it had grown to far exceed Northaw in population terms.

Type 14, 50x39mm, designed by Mrs. Carolyn Clark, printed by C & D Associates (Cuffley) on labels on an imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. Cuffley Horticultual Society was inaugurated n 8th March 1940, the subject of the meeting being "Vegetable Production at Home", particularly apt as there were the beginnings of wartime food shortages. Current membership is over 600.



1996 (October 28th)

Type 15, 45mm diameter, designed by Mrs. Carolyn Clark, printed by C & D Associates (Cuffley) on labels on an imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. This issue celebrates 80 years of Cub Scouting (originally Wolf Cubs).



1997 (October 27th)

1997 issue

Type 16, 50x39mm, designed by Mrs. Carolyn Clark, printed by C & D Associates (Cuffley) on labels on an imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. This issue marks the creation of the 1st Cuffley Beaver Colony on 10th September 1997.

A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. This issue marks the Golden Jubilee of the Disability charity "Leonard Cheshire".

Type 18, 50x39mm, designed by Mrs. Carolyn Clark, printed by C & D Associates (Cuffley) on labels on an imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. This issue commemmorates the 25th anniversary of the opening of the Cuffley Hall on 9th August 1974.



2000 (November 7th)

2000 issue

Type 19, 39x50mm, designed by Alan George, printed by C & D Associates (Cuffley) on rolls of labels on an imperforate backing paper. A first day cover was produced on a plain envelope, also bearing a single 2nd class BPO Christmas stamp cancelled by an FDI postmark. This issue marks the 60th anniversary of the Tolmers Scout Camp in Cuffley. The design is based on the 'Tolmers Logo' which is thought to be derived from the coat of arms of the Earl of Warwick who owned Northaw Manor in the 15th century.



2001 (November 6th)
