The following county list is based upon the names of the geographic counties during 1981, the year in which the first few of these Posts were started. Subsequent boundary changes in 1997/8 have so altered the map that many counties have all but disappeared and been replaced by so many smaller units that grouping by these new local government organisations would be pointless. Grey text indicates that there are not known to have been any Posts in that county.
An alternative approach to the organisation of a county index is to use the "Scout Counties/Regions" into which the Scout Association is divided. An index based upon this approach can be found here but crrently is still incomplete.
